Elohim/Henotheism to God/Monotheism
Gaia TV / Secret Life of Symbols
"In the beginning Elohim created havens and the earth. The beginning of the heavens and earth which are now." Elohim means the gods in the plural. So the correct understanding of Genesis 1:1 is that, in the beginning the gods created the heavens and the earth. But some Hebrew dictionary translate Elohim as God, and this is what confused us.
Judaism is not a monotheistic religion. It is HENOtheology. Henotheology means picking one god out of many. If you pick one out of a group then he is your god, and you are his people.
Deuteronomy 11:16 says, "But be careful not to let yourselves be seduced, serving other gods and worshipping them." So the Jewish God, the god of the Jews, as telling them that there are other gods, but do not worship them.
First, you need to know that the people we call the ancient Hebrews were not Hebrews as such. They were, in fact, Phoenician / Canaanites. You can trace back in the encyclopedias. Judaism is the faith of the people of Judah and it's the developed faith of the Semitic people known as hebrews or Israelites. It is recognized as the first religious tradition noted for its monotheism and deep commitment to ethical responsibility. The Hebrew tradition do not begin as monotheism. So all the people in the Middle East were anything but monotheistic. We see this happening with the human race for thousands of years.
We have previously established that the "mighty ones" are the "sons of God", "the assembly of messengers", and that Yahweh was a part of these messengers. It is important when you see in the scriptures, in the Hebrew it says Elohim "we shall make man in our image." You can see a lot of articles on Hebrew henotheism.
Psalm 82: "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; the judgeth among the gods," meaning one of many gods, he, is standing among all other gods. Another version says, "God takes his stand in divine council"; "Elohim [God] stands in the divine assembly; there with elohim, he judges." Elohim God stand in the divine assembly, where there are other Elohims.
That was in the Old Testament, but even in the New Testament, apostle Paul basically says the same thing...1 Corinthians "For though there may be called gods, where in heaven or on earth, as there be gods many and lords many." So we look like the gods who created us, the Elohim.
In Hebrew, the word for "man" is "ish". I-S-H in Hebrew means man and woman. The Bible says God made A-D-M. Ish already existed when ADM was created. We call this new creature Adam. "And Adam lived 130 years and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth".
Also it's interesting that in Islam, and in Quran, everywhere god is talking to man, it's "we". We created you. So indeed there are many different gods. Gods saw ish and they used ish and remade into adm. We call it Adam. So ish were some kind of hominid and gods said, "let us make him look like us, make him in our image. "And God blessed them, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth." Re-plenish...
Geneis 1: 2 Says, "And the earth was without form, and void." That is an incorrect translation. This English translation is a mistranslation of original Hebrew words tohu vavohu. It means desolate and waste. The earth became waste and void. The earth became waste and desolation. This is saying there had been massive destruction happened to this planet. And Adam and Eve were told to go forth and do it again, start all over again.
